The man was more than the father of general relativity theory -- a legendary quantum physicist and acknowledged genius. He was also a visionary and deep philosopher. He was something that few have achieved: an integrated combination of spiritual believer and consummate scientist. He is one of my personal heroes.

What follows are some quotes from him. Sound bites, as it were. Reflect upon them when you have a need to tame the materialist within you.

“The really valuable thing is the intuition. The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or what you will, and the solution comes to you and you don’t know how or why.”

“I maintain that cosmic religious feeling is the strongest and  noblest incitement to scientific research.”

“Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.”

“The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It  is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science.”

“Whoever undertakes to set himself up as judge in the field of truth and knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the Gods.”

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful  servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

”I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important that knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”

“There are only two ways to live your life: one is as though nothing is a miracle, the other as if everything is. I believe in the latter.”

“Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a Spirit is manifest in the Laws of the Universe.”

“I did not arrive at my understanding of the fundamental laws of the universe through my rational mind.”

As you can see from the above quotes, materialistic, stuck in space/time scientists would have great argument with Einstein, but no one has had the nerve to challenge him. I am very grateful that he had the tremendous courage to go against conventional scientific thought.

In studies of consciousness you need guidance. I can think of no finer consciousness to study and emulate than Einstein’s. Even though he is dead, the power of Einstein’s mind persists in the quantum dimensions that he opened up to us.
